The journey

101 EMJ – Lake Garda Grand Loop circles Lake Garda, bringing together the lake’s broad southern basin, its dramatic northern shores and the foothills that rise above the water. Around 286 km of riding reveal a striking variety of landscapes: promenades and harbours, steep slopes, olive groves, stone villages, vineyard country and alpine edges. The lake remains a constant point of reference, yet each stretch has its own atmosphere, shaped by the changing shoreline, the proximity of the mountains and the rhythm of the towns.

The area rewards a measured pace. Lakeside roads can feel close and busy, with tunnels, narrow sections and frequent transitions through town centres; higher roads open to wider views and cooler air. Historic centres, waterfalls, panoramic terraces and cliffside sanctuaries invite time off the bike, but parking and walking access need to be part of the day. In summer, traffic and visitor numbers can slow progress. Shoulder seasons often bring a calmer feel, while the mountain weather can still differ sharply from conditions beside the water. Check forecasts and local access notices, and keep enough daylight to adapt comfortably.

There is plenty to enjoy beyond the riding. Peschiera del Garda and Arco offer walkable historic settings, while Monte Baldo and Valpolicella add mountain and vineyard character to the wider landscape. Local producers and small towns make worthwhile pauses when visits are planned around parking, opening times and the return to the road. Choose a few stops that matter most, leave room for unplanned viewpoints, and let the loop feel like a journey rather than a checklist.

Food & wine

Garda flavours and cellar visits

Discover Garda DOP extra-virgin olive oil, Carne Salada, Lugana and Valpolicella wine. Visit an Arco oil mill or winery on foot or by taxi after parking the motorcycle. Never schedule a tasting before another riding leg.

Check tasting days, booking requirements and food service directly. Typical Italian lunch service is around 12:00–14:30 and dinner around 19:00–22:00, but individual venues vary.

Seasonality & Weather

Check the lake and ridge on the day

Spring through autumn is the practical planning window, but Monte Baldo can be cold, windy or clouded while the shore is warm. Tourist traffic builds around lakefront towns and the Forra. Check current local forecasts, roadworks and visitor opening hours 24–48 hours ahead and again before departure.

Rider preparation

Before leaving

Offline navigation

Save the route navigation file, roadbook and offline map tiles for both shores, Arco and Monte Baldo; do not rely on mobile coverage in tunnels or mountain areas.

Fuel and range

The longest listed station gap is about 87 km on Stage 1 and 97 km on Stage 2 by nearest-point projection. Your motorcycle range was not supplied; compare it with usable range and reserve before riding.

Riding kit

Carry waterproof layers, gloves for cooler ridge conditions, water and eye protection. Check forecast and daylight margin.

Visits and parking

Confirm winery bookings, sanctuary access and hotel garage space. Leave the motorcycle parked before wine or oil tasting.

Rider Clothing & Kit

Prepare for shore-to-ridge changes

Pack protective riding gear with waterproof and windproof layers. Temperature and visibility may change quickly on Monte Baldo; carry drinking water, a charged phone, offline map data and any motorcycle security equipment needed at overnight parking.

Practical Recommendations

Ride with a daylight margin

Choose one main visit per stage and treat additional stops as optional. For Stage 1, verify the uphill one-way section and any Forra closure notice before leaving Peschiera. For Stage 2, check Monte Baldo weather and allow separate time for parking and the Madonna della Corona approach. Use signed roads and skip a visit if fatigue, weather or delays reduce the margin.

Download offline maps and keep accommodation, fuel and emergency contacts available without data. Fuel service amenities are listed individually; unverified facilities are explicitly marked in the station cards.

Airports & motorcycle rental

Fly-and-ride access

Verona Villafranca (VRN) is the nearest major airport to Peschiera; Bergamo (BGY), Milan (MXP/LIN) and Venice (VCE) are alternatives depending on flights and onward transfer. Confirm public transport, baggage and collection logistics before booking.

Verified motorcycle rental options include BMW Rent A Ride partner Motoves in Verona (published rental season 1 February–30 September; model and pickup availability vary), Ducati Verona rental fleet and EagleRider near Verona Airport. Rent Garda Lake in Peschiera lists Vespa 125cc rental rather than a touring motorcycle. Verify bike class, luggage, licence, insurance, deposit, mileage, airport transfer and pickup point directly.
