This nine-stage motorcycle journey links Milan with the Massif Central through two very different Alpine crossings. The outbound ride uses the open Col du Mont-Cenis before pausing in Roman Vienne. From there, the route enters France’s quieter uplands through Livradois-Forez and reaches Clermont-Ferrand beneath the Chaîne des Puys.

Clermont-Ferrand supports a luggage-free volcanic loop around Puy de Dôme, Sancy, Murol and Saint-Nectaire. The accepted Clermont–Millau GPX is then followed without rerouting, but divided at Le Puy-en-Velay to create one overnight there before continuing through Mende and the Grands Causses to Millau. Alès remains the second two-night base, with a luggage-free southern Cévennes loop reaching the Cirque de Navacelles.

The final movement turns east through the Drôme and Col de Cabre to Gap, then crosses the high Alps at Col Agnel before descending Val Varaita and returning through the Langhe and Monferrato. The result is not a simple out-and-back: the Italian entry and return use different valleys and passes, and the French section progresses consistently from north to south.

All stages are paved, but the riding varies from motorway transfers to narrow gorge roads and exposed high passes. Col du Mont-Cenis, Mont Lozère, Col de Cabre and especially Col Agnel require current weather and opening checks. This is best approached as a full touring journey with early starts, flexible stop time and realistic margins rather than a sequence of fast daily targets.
