Oslo 800 km Ring · Route Overview

A fully paved 800 km ring starting and ending in Oslo, unfolding through Drammen, Kongsberg, Rjukan and the high mountain roads of Haukeli. The loop blends industrial heritage, deep valleys, open plateaux and crystal-clear lakes across three balanced riding days. With curated POIs, scenic detours and comfortable daily distances, this itinerary delivers a clean, photography-rich snapshot of southern Norway’s landscapes—ideal for riders wanting a well-paced multi-day adventure.

Day 1 · Oslo → Haukeli

Oslo to Haukeli · Valleys, Industry & Highland Edge

Leave Oslo along the fjord and slide into the Drammen valley before turning towards the mining town of Kongsberg. From here the road tightens and climbs into the deep industrial canyon of Rjukan, with Vemork sitting high above the valley. The final stretch rises onto more open ground towards Rauland and Haukeli, where the mountains and plateaux announce the approach to Hardangervidda.

  1. Oslo / Opera House area – rollout point by the waterfront; fuel up and leave via main roads towards Drammen.
  2. Drammen – follow the river corridor; optional detour up to Spiraltoppen Viewpoint .
  3. Kongsberg – coffee stop or short visit to the Silver Mines ; then continue west on valley roads.
  4. Rjukan – dramatic industrial valley; detour to Vemork Museum for the WWII heavy-water story.
  5. Rauland – quieter highland village; roads start to feel more open and flowing.
  6. Haukeli / Haukeligrend – end of Day 1; base for exploring the edges of Hardangervidda and preparing for Day 2.
